Andreas Hofmeir
Tuba
Professor for tuba at the Mozarteum University Salzburg / Director of the Bläserphilharmonie Mozarteum Salzburg
Andreas Martin Hofmeir, who is currently one of the best and most versatile instrumentalists, enjoys moving between different genres. He teaches at the Universität Mozarteum Salzburg, founded the popular Bavarian band LaBrassBanda, and has received numerous awards both as a cabaret performer and classical tuba player, most recently the Bavarian State Prize for Music in 2020. Hofmeir studied under Dietrich Unkrodt, Michael Lind, and Jens Björn-Larsen. In 2005, he became the first tuba player in the history of the competition to win the German Music Competition, and in 2013, he received the ECHO Klassik as "Instrumentalist of the Year," also as the first tuba player ever.
As a soloist, he has performed with the Münchner and Bremer Philharmoniker, the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, and many others. He is a sought-after lecturer for master classes and workshops worldwide. As a pioneer of his instrument, Hofmeir consistently breaks new ground with his chamber music activities: he forms the duo tuba & harp with Andreas Mildner, the Schmid Hofmeir HochTief GmbH with violinist Benjamin Schmid, and the duo tuba & organ with Barbara Schmelz. His European Tuba Power, a unique ensemble combining four of Europe’s best tuba players with a drum set, also stands out.
In addition to his classical career, Hofmeir has been performing as a cabaret artist for more than twenty years. He writes humorous columns and books, and he hosts his own cabaret show “Who's Gonna Blow It?”. With his band LaBrassBanda, with which he performed until 2013, he reached the top ten of the German charts. As a crossover artist, Hofmeir increasingly blends classical music, jazz, and cabaret in exceptional programs, where he appears on stage as a classical soloist, moderator, actor, cabaret artist, and jazz musician.
As a conductor, he has collaborated with the Baden-Württemberg Youth Wind Music Camp, the BASF Selection Orchestra, the Audi Philharmonic Wind Orchestra, and the MON International Summer Academy, among others. Since October 2022, he has been the artistic director of the Bläserphilharmonie Mozarteum Salzburg, and from 2024, he will be the conductor of the Sinfonietta Essenbach.
Andreas Martin Hofmeir plays tubas from the Buffet Crampon Group.
