Professor of Tuba and Euphonium
Luiz Ricardo Serralheiro started his tuba studies at the São Paulo Municipal Music School under the guidance of Professor Dráuzio Chagas. Serralheiro earned a Bachelor degree in tuba performance at the Mozarteum University in São Paulo and has taken courses with Professor Roger Bobo and Anne Jelle Visser in Florence, Italy.
He has held important positions as Principal Tuba at many ensembles in São Paulo such as the Cultura Symphony Orchestra, São Paulo State Symphony Orchestra, São Paulo State Wind Symphony, and São Bernardo Philharmonic Orchestra. Serralheiro has also made guest appearances with the São Paulo University Orchestra, Bachianna Philharmonic and Camerata Aberta among many others. As a pedagogue, Serralheiro is considered as one of the most active tuba professors in Brazil. He teaches at the São Paulo Municipal Music School, São Paulo State Music School, Mozarteum University in São Paulo, the NEOJIBA Project Tuba Academy in Salvador (Bahia), and the Baccarelli Institute. In addition, he is constantly invited to teach at several festivals, masterclasses, symposiums, conferences, and music meetings.
Serralheiro is an active musician in the Brazilian phonographic industry and has been part of recordings of the Villa Lobos and Prokofiev’s symphonies in their entirety with the São Paulo State Symphony Orchestra and many other critically acclaimed recording projects. He has performed at the most important stages in Europe, United States, and South America. Currently, Serralheiro is Principal Tuba of the São Paulo Opera House Orchestra where he develops intense research in the realm of both orchestral and operatic repertoire for the tuba. An advocate for the development and advancement of the tuba, he also regularly acts as a soloist with chamber and symphonic groups. Serralheiro is a Buffet Crampon artist and an Engelmann Mouthpieces artist.
